Season tickets now on sale
March 6, 2013 (PHILADELPHIA, Pa.) – The Philadelphia Freedoms announced that the 2013 Mylan World TeamTennis presented by GEICO season home opener will take place on Wednesday, July 10 at the Pavilion at Villanova University. Former world No. 1 and 2003 US Open Champion Andy Roddick will return to Philadelphia for the home opener playing for the Springfield Lasers in his first competitive professional matches since the 2012 US Open.

The home season continues on July 16 against the 2011 and 2012 Mylan WTT Champions Washington Kastles and July 17 against the New York Sportimes. On July 16 the Freedoms will look to break the Kastles back-to-back undefeated season winning streak with Freedoms marquee player Sloane Stephens. Stephens will also play on the 17 against the Sportimes.

Stephens is the No. 2 ranked American player and 2013 Australian Open semifinalist and was the Freedoms’ first pick in the 2013 Mylan World TeamTennis Marquee Draft.  World No. 17 Stephens advanced to the semifinals by defeating Serena Williams, the only time Williams has ever lost to a younger American player. Aside from a fierce backhand, Stephens is known for raising tennis' social media profile—she tweeted on-court immediately following her defeat of Serena (Twitter handle: @sloanetweets). Stephens played for Mylan World TeamTennis’ historic all-amateur team in 2009.

The Orange County Breakers will visit Villanova on July 19.  On July 21 the newest Mylan WTT franchise, the Irving-based Texas Wild, will come to town with the world’s top-ranked doubles team Bob and Mike BryanBob and Mike Bryan return to Philadelphia following their 2012 Olympic gold medal win. The record-setting brothers have held the year-end number one ranking for eight of the last ten years and recently won their 13th career Grand Slam doubles title at the 2013 Australian Open. This will be the Bryans’ 11th season of Mylan WTT competition.

The home season wraps up with a pair of matches July 23 and July 24. The Freedoms will welcome the Boston Lobsters on July 23rd. During the 2012 season the Freedoms narrowly defeated the Lobsters 18-17 in a hard fought home match.

JUST ADDED: Hall of Famer John McEnroe and the New York Sportimes will close out the Freedoms home schedule on July 24! Last season’s match against the Sportimes was a nail-biter to the end with the Freedoms falling a super tiebreaker with a final score of 18-19.  Fans and players alike were on the edges of their seats during that intense match.
