Villanova, PA (July 14, 2012) – Following a tough road loss last night against the New York Sportimes, the Philadelphia Freedoms brought the action back to Villanova for the third home match of the 2012 season. The Freedoms scored another victory against the Springfield Lasers with a final score of 21-18.

The Freedoms started out the match strong in a 5-1 mixed doubles win with Freedoms’ Kristyna Pliskova and Jordan Kerr overtaking Maria Sanchez and Devin Britton of the Springfield Lasers. The Freedoms Kristyna Pliskova fell in women’s singles against the Lasers’ Timea Babos, 2-5.  In the third set, the Freedoms came from behind in men’s doubles with Jordan Kerr and Luka Gregorc beating Lasers’ Amir Weintraub and Devin Britton 5-4 in overtime.

During halftime, tennis legend and Philadelphia Freedoms owner Billie Jean King was honored on court in celebration of the 40th anniversary of her French Open victory.

The fourth set of men’s singles put Freedoms’ Luka Gregorc against Lasers’ Amir Weintraub in a competitive and hard fought set. In the end the Lasers took the set 5-4 in overtime. Freedoms’ Kristyna Pliskova and Karolina Pliskova led the Freedoms to a match victory with a 5-3 win in women’s doubles against the Lasers’ Timea Babos and Maria Sanchez.

The Freedoms next home match is Monday, July 16, 2012 against the Kansas City Explorers and Bob and Mike Bryan. The Freedoms continue their 2012 home season throughout July with a roster of world-class tennis pros John McEnroe and Martina Hingis for the New York Sportimes (July 20) and Mark Philippoussis for the Freedoms (July 25), plus a special appearance by tennis legend Chris Evert (July 19). The Philadelphia Freedoms are presented by Beneficial Bank and hosted by Cancer Treatment Centers of America.
