In anticipation of the upcoming World Team Tennis season, tennis legend Billie Jean King hosted a free clinic for kids from the Althea Gibson Community Education and Tennis Center. The Freedoms open their season at the Pavilion at Villanova University on Thursday, July 8 at 7:30 p.m.
Along with assistance from Freedoms Assistant Coach Josh Cohen and instructors from the USTA Middle States Section, the tennis legend will address the young players and teach them essential tennis fundamentals. King, who now owns the Freedoms, originally played for the team in the 1970s and is a co-founder of World Team Tennis.
The 2010 Philadelphia Freedoms season will feature some of the greatest tennis stars ever seen in Philadelphia – Andy Roddick, Venus Williams, Serena Williams, and Anna Kournikova – each appearing during one home match in July. The Freedoms will play seven home matches at The Pavilion at Villanova University. All events will feature world-class tennis in an innovative, fast-paced World Team Tennis format.
