PHILADELPHIA FREEDOMS TO OPEN SEASON AGAINST VENUS WILLIAMS AT THE
PAVILION AT VILLANOVA ON JULY 8

The world's top tennis professionals will compete in World TeamTennis
action at the intimate and air-conditioned Pavilion on the campus of
Villanova University as today the Philadelphia Freedoms announced their
2010 season schedule. The Freedoms will open their home schedule at the
Pavilion on Thursday, July 8 when Venus Williams and her Washington
Kastles come to the Pavilion at 7 p.m.
 
Andy Roddick, the 2003 US Open Men's Singles Champion, will make his
2010 season debut for the Freedoms at the Pavilion on Thursday, July 15
at 7 p.m. Roddick is presently ranked No. 8 in the world and has 28
career singles titles. He is a former world No. 1 and has played for the
Untied States Davis Cup Team.

Other highlights of the Freedoms home schedule include visits to the
Pavilion by Sarena Williams playing for the Washington Kastles on
Tuesday, July 13; Anna Kournikova and the St. Louis Aces on Tuesday,
July 20; and Martina Hingis and the New York Buzz on Wednesday, July 21.
 
Individual match tickets will go on sale on Friday, March 12 at 8 a.m.

Freedoms matches at the Pavilion feature world-class tennis in an
innovative, fast-paced World TeamTennis format.  Each evening will
include exciting pre-match Block Parties produced by Comcast Spectacor
and featuring USTA Quick Start Tennis, live music, inflatables, mascots,
kids' games, prizes, food, and much more.
 
Venus Williams, currently the fifth-ranked player in the world and a
member of the Kastles, will be returning for her seventh WTT season.
Williams played five seasons with the Freedoms. She has won 43 career
singles titles, including seven Grand Slams. She has won two singles
titles on the WTA Tour this year, as well as the 2010 Australian Open
Doubles Championship with her sister, Serena. Venus has also represented
the U.S. in the past three summer Olympic games and captured two gold
medals.
 
Serena Williams returns to Philadelphia for the second consecutive
summer when she plays on Tuesday, July 13 for the Kastles. She is the
No. 1 ranked player in the world. She captured her fifth Australian Open
singles championship earlier this year, the first player in the Open era
to win that many Australian Open titles. She holds at least one singles
championship from each Grand Slam event, and has 36 career singles
titles.
 
Kournikova has 16 career doubles titles including two Grand Slam titles
and was ranked as high as No. 8 in singles and No. 1 in doubles.
Kournikova was a member of the Russian Olympic team in 1996 and in 1997
and became the second woman in the Open era to reach the semifinals of
Wimbledon in her debut appearance.  This will be Kournikova's second
visit to Freedoms territory since 2003.
 
Hingis has won five Grand Slam singles championships, including three in
1997 (Australian, Wimbledon and US Open). She was the youngest Grand
Slam winner in the 20th century and the youngest No. 1 ranked player in
history. She won the 1997 Advanta Championships, capturing this title on
center court at the Villanova Pavilion.
