#ServingFreedom In France 2018May 24, 2018
No less than four members of the 2018 Freedoms are representing Philly in the 2018 French Open!
Reigning US Open Champion Sloane Stephens (playing in Philly July 19), the no. 10 seed, will play qualifier Arantxa Rus in the opening round. This will be Sloane’s first trip to Roland Garros since 2016 after missing the year’s second Grand Slam due to injury one year ago.
No. 6 seed Kevin Anderson (playing for the Freedoms July 19 and July 20), takes on Italian Paolo Lorenzi in the first round. The 2017 US Open Finalist is in the midst of one of the best runs of his career, having won the inaugural New York Open in February and currently sitting at a career high world no. 7 ranking.
Taylor Townsend, playing in her fifth consecutive French Open singles main draw, will have to overcome a partisan crowd when she takes on French wild card recipient Myrtille Georges. Like teammate Anderson, Townsend is playing the best tennis of her career, the winner of five pro circuit singles titles since this past October.
Taylor and her Freedoms Mixed Doubles partner Fabrice Martin - WTT’s no.1-ranked Mixed Doubles team last season - will both look to make deep runs in doubles when those draws are announced early in week one.
Fabrice, the Freedoms’ resident Frenchman, comes into his “home” Grand Slam on a hot streak, having reached the semifinals in men’s doubles in nearby Lyon, France this past week!
